That’s because our dreams may offer valuable information about the deepest levels of our personalities and the manner in which we live out our humanity. Understanding the images of our dreams can assist in uncovering underlying issues through tracking the themes and patterns presented in the images.
Dream work offers a deep insight into internal conflicts, and identifies barriers to healing and growth as well as possible solutions. Importantly, it provides avenues to unlock people’s potential and help clients to move towards living a meaningful life.
The learning objectives of this online course focus on:
- Training professionals in working therapeutically with dreams and other altered states of consciousness.
- An introduction to progressive thinking and the different perspectives in working with dreams.
- Developing an understanding of the dream as an embodied living story in the person’s psyche.
- An in-depth exploration of the different approaches in terms of working with dreams as well as the therapeutic considerations that determine how and when to use specific aspects of dream work with particular clients.
- Learning to differentiate and recognise different types of dreams, such as anxiety, compensatory and transference dreams, their dramatic structure and the therapeutic considerations applicable to each type of dream.
- Working with nightmares.
- Deepening dream work by developing the capacity to differentiate between dream figures in terms of aspects of the dreamer’s psyche and to identify universal themes or patterns in dreams and what they may represent in the dreamer’s psyche, especially repetitive themes.
- Learning how dream metaphors and symbols may signal which issues need to be addressed, and how and when they should be addressed.
- Learning dream incubation and dream recall strategies.
- Ethical considerations in the applications of dream work to Entheogenic (psychedelic) visionary experience.
- Necessary ethical considerations in the integration process of psychedelic experiences.
- Working with reported or anticipated psychedelic experiences; learning to ethically approach issues such as harm reduction; risk and benefit assessment; and participants’ psychological and physical preparation.

THE COURSE WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING MODULES:
Module 1: Introduction & Overview: A portal to the deeper meaning of life
This module introduces professionals to progressive thinking about working with dreams, introducing terminology and different perspectives. As a therapeutic tool dream work can assist professionals in helping their clients to identify unconscious patterns and deeply held beliefs that limit them in their lives. It provides avenues to unlock people’s potential and help clients to move towards living a meaningful life, taking guidance from their dreams and building a personal narrative that underlies our sense of self.
Module 2: Decoding dreams: Different approaches
The value for professionals of this module is to increase their understanding of the dream as an embodied living story in the person’s psyche. They will gain knowledge of the different approaches in terms of working with dreams as well as the therapeutic considerations in regards to individual patients to determine how and when to use specific aspects of dream appreciation with each particular client.
Module 3: Deepening dream work: Types of dreams & cultivating dreaming (how to remember your dreams)
The value of this module to professionals is that it will increase their understanding and recognition of the different types of dreams, such as compensatory and transference dreams. Professionals will learn to differentiate between mundane and archetypal dreams as well as to distinguish anxiety dreams from nightmares. They will be better informed concerning the structure of different types of dreams and the therapeutic considerations applicable to these different types of dreams. They will also learn more about dream recall strategies.
Module 4: Deepening dream work: Tracking aspects of self & universal themes / patterns
The value of this module to professionals is that it will increase their capacity to think about different dream figures in terms of aspects of the dreamer’s psyche. Professionals will learn to approach issues ethically including harm reduction; risk and benefit assessment; and, participants’ psychological and physical preparation. They will also be better informed about ethical considerations in the necessary integration process as well as the application of dream work approaches to psychedelic experiences.
